Learning To Oil Paint
Steps To Take For The Beginning Artist
Learning to paint can be one of the most rewarding things you can do,
whether it is your first painting or a finished painting from a seasoned artist.
Below I will list some of these steps to help the beginning artist out.
Decide what you want to paint?
All too often we cannot make our minds up what we want to paint,
landscape, floral, seascape, portraits, etc...
Now is time to figure out what medium to use?
Here are some mediums to choose from: Oils, Acrylic, Watercolor, Pastel,Ink, Pencil, Gouache, Egg Tempera, Water mixable Oils, etc...
that should be enough to help you choose a medium.
Choosing the right painting tools?
This can be one of the hardest things to do as a painter, there are so many possibilities, I have some brushes on my website that can help take the guess work out of it.
When you go to the brush section of the site, click on the details to see the listing of the uses for each brush.

Easy Palette With Freezer Paper
Let's talk about the Painter's Palette. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="1365"] Paper Palette[/caption] Throughout the years of being an artist and loving to paint as much as I can, I have picked up a thing or two I am always looking for things that help You and I save ($$$) money. Today I want to talk about the painter's palette there are so many to choose from on the market you could go nuts trying to find one that you like best. I have several from plastic to wood to using an old canvas etc... the list goes on, but if you are looking for a good all purpose palette that will serve you well and is disposable try using Reynolds Freezer Paper I use this stuff all the time especially for my students when I am teaching a class, normally I supply everything for new students so this makes for easy cleanup at the end of the day. How to use: The Freezer paper comes in 18 inch width so I tear off about 24 inches so that makes my palette 18x24 that gives me lots of mixing space. Next I use masking tape to tape the corners down so it won't move when I am mixing or loading a brush, one of the best parts about the paper is if you have paint left put it in an airtight container and freeze it to use it again or simply toss it in the trash if you are finished with it. Note: I forgot to mention the freezer paper has a shiny side and a dull side the shiny side should be facing up, the paint does not bleed through it is very strong and durable. You can pick this Freezer paper up at about anywhere grocery stores or Walmart has 150 ft rolls most stores only have 75 ftTuesday, August 18, 2015
Well it is August 2015 and we are already in the middle of the month, WOW! time flies by.
Some quick updates on what is happening
First- I had the pleasure of meeting a great writer, I was a vendor at a festival earlier this year. A customer purchased a painting from me, Beauty-Fall.
Later he wrote me asking to use the painting for the cover of his book "Circles of Fate". I was excited but humbled at the same time, I want to say thank you to Mitch Lits for sharing my artwork on his book cover! This book is part 1 of Destiny's Call Trilogy be sure to check it out if you get a chance, I already purchased my copy. Circles of Fate.
Also this month I will be releasing a new video soon hopefully? lol it is a 4 painting lesson it will be about 2 hours or more of video when completed. so stay tuned for this new release.
I hope you have a blessed and wonderful day,
Michael Thompson

July 2015
I have a new eBook,
for July 2015 I hope you pick up a copy of it, I have added a new feature to the book I call it “color coding” so it should help you understand how to read the book easier and quicker and know what parts I am referring to.
My future books will evolve from this format and hopefully get even better..
